There are a wide range of treatments available for all types of skin conditions. They include oral medication, creams, lotions and gels, light therapy, lasers, cosmetic treatments and surgery.

Some of these treatments are available on prescription from your GP or are administered by a dermatologist only.

Some of these treatments such as intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, chemical peels and microdermabrasion are not available on the NHS. You will have to pay for private treatment at a clinic. Check with your GP about what it is and is not covered on the NHS and if you have to ‘go private’ then ask about referral to a suitable clinic.
