Microdermabrasion

This is a popular cosmetic treatment for improving the appearance of the skin or facial rejuvenation. But it can also be used to treat certain skin conditions such as blackheads, whiteheads and age spots.

It is a form of exfoliation in which an ageing or damaged area of skin is removed via medical crystals which stimulates the growth of a new layer of skin.

It is suitable for men and women of all skin types and does not require any preparation or downtime. One of several aesthetic procedures carried out at a private clinic.

The microdermabrasion procedure

The practitioner will use a hand held device that sprays fine, medical grade crystals over the skin. These crystals and dead skin cells are then vacuumed away.

This reveals a smooth, healthy layer of skin. Collagen within that layer is stimulated to produce new cells which thickens the skin and protects it against the ravages of time.

You will need to wear a suncream with a high sun protection factor (SPF) after this procedure to protect your new skin against the sun.

Side effects of microdermabrasion

Your skin will develop a mild red appearance after the procedure. This appears 30 minutes or several hours afterwards but soon eases.
